Do you know why today is EXTRA special? I made it "Get to Know Your Customers Day" and that means it’s all about YOU! In my dare I say 20 yr career as an interior designer, I have encountered all kinds of amazing people and one of my favorite things to learn about my clients is their path of leading a consciously healthy lifestyle.
I started my adult life as a professional dancer working with ballet and modern dance troupes in and around NYC. Years pass and the body starts aging and it was time to move my career on at which time I turned to interior design. I had always loved interior design and decoration probably since I was dragged to museums and antique stores from a young age.
When I finished my schooling at Parsons School of Design, I found a wonderful mentor and boss that made me the designer I am today. He taught me about color, proportion, and everything home! I found that I loved creating homes for families and this drove me to specialize in residential construction through decoration when I formed my own company a few years down the road. Years into my business I found all paths were drawing me to ecological design which was a new frontier. After training to learn the good, the bad, and the difficulty I asked myself what was profoundly important to me with combining my two passions when creating a home and it was the health and wellness of the families that live IN the home. At this point, I had become certified as a Sustainable Building Advisor, Professional Interior Designer, and Green AP and I was always trying to question and check in with my priorities. While eco was the buzzword of the moment and movements like Zero Waste were abound these weren’t ringing true to me. I could create an eco-friendly house and put it all to shame when we load it up with toxic furniture or we can live a Zero Waste life but this didn’t mean I would buy organic food when living this lifestyle. I had a family of my own and was concerned about what my children’s environment was doing to their bodies and mind. So, I once again took my education and pushed it a step further to infuse healthy environmental practices in the design of the homes I create. While you will see me using a glass straw while zooming (very zero waste) and you will see me refer to LEED building standards ultimately, I make my decisions based on health and wellness in our home. Creating a home that integrates healthy non-toxic living with style is just the best job I could imagine having!
